The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a cherished tradition where families come together to share stories, admire the moon, and enjoy mooncakes. It is a time to reflect on the importance of family and togetherness.

One of the most popular legends associated with this festival is the story of Chang’e and Hou Yi. According to the legend, Hou Yi was a skilled archer who saved the Earth by shooting down nine of the ten suns that were scorching the planet. As a reward, he received an elixir of immortality. However, his wife, Chang’e, drank the elixir to protect it from a thief and ascended to the moon, where she became the Moon Goddess.

Every year, on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, families gather to celebrate their reunion and honor Chang’e by eating mooncakes and admiring the full moon12.
